Do museums inspire passion?

I think it is widely known that our industry inspires passion in those that work inside them, but what about those that visit them?

As part of my general clean-out I came across this yellowing newspaper article from the Sydney Morning Herald (no idea how long ago) talking about some visitors’ response to art being to sneak off and make love in the gallery’s bathroom. Objects, stories, art works, performance – all have the capacity to move visitors in many unexpected ways, so while not necessarily condoning this activity in the bathroom, it is one of the many stories we occassionally hear around our sector!

So next time a museum or gallery work moves you, so to speak, just go with the flow… As Modern Guru concludes: If a picture paints a thousand words, surely one of them can be “yes”.
